Château de Pleneselve
route de Rayssac
The château de Plèneselve is built on a hilltop near
the vallon de Saint Denis. It is a true fortified castle with towers,
dunjeon and draw bridge.
When it was built, the area was a large forest covering with shade
valleys and hills. As its name - coming from Plena Silva - indicates,
it was built in the woods.
In the 12th century, the castle was a surrounding wall with a large
square tower built on a rock on its southern side - the most vilnerable.
Only ruins are left of the original surrounding wall from the 12th
century and they don't give any idea of its original shape or size.
